Description
Like patent attorneys, Patent Engineers need to have specialized knowledge in the scientific or engineering area in which they work. Patent Engineers help clients secure patents, which are ownership interests in scientific inventions. A Patent Engineer work closely with company’s or Law Firm’s Patent Attorney. Will evaluate the patentability of innovations. Prepare, draft and file patent applications. Work closely with attorneys and different business teams. Perform research and analysis, and provide guidance on a variety of patent and IP-related issues.
Tasks
Main tasks are:
- help inventors and R&D with every aspect of the patent process
- research other similar inventions and patents
- write patent applications with an eye toward anticipating any questions or objections the patent examiner might have
- prepare responses to reports from patent examiners
- ensure application and renewal deadlines are met
- support litigation in proceedings
- advise overseas attorneys on applications for foreign patent applications
- deal with assignments of patent when a patent is sold or transferred

Required graduation
Abitur (secondary school 12th / 13th grade)
